If someone quotes you dramatically less, ask them what's not included; it's usually bedding, gas, insurance excess reduction, and the extra hour on handover, and those four line items add up fast.

Every hire is fully-comp insured. The excess reduction is optional and worth it if you're new to a vehicle this size — Highland roads are narrow and one clipped mirror is enough to eat the excess. It's cheap peace of mind.

Route advice for guests based near Musselburgh

Route-wise, my honest advice for guests routing back to Musselburgh: don't try to do the full NC500 in five days. It's a wonderful road but it punishes tight itineraries. Take a week, add two days, or shorten it — the Highlands are better savoured than sprinted. Scotland's coast has plenty of week-length loops that finish you back near home without the panic.
