I get calls from Bowness-on-Windermere most weeks — sometimes a family working out whether hiring beats buying, sometimes a retired couple who've finally decided this is the year. Whatever brings you to look at campervan hire from Bowness-on-Windermere, my job is to make sure you leave with the right van and a plan you can actually enjoy.
What campervan hire from Bowness-on-Windermere actually looks like
Bowness-on-Windermere sits in a genuinely lucky spot for motorhome touring in North West England. Loch, glen or coast — most of what people come to Scotland for is inside a comfortable day's driving from where you'll collect the van, and we'll happily plot the first two nights for you before you set off.
Handover takes an hour, sometimes ninety minutes, and I won't rush it. You'll drive the van around our yard before you leave, set up the awning, connect the hook-up, and light the hob, so nothing on your first night is a surprise. Guests from further afield sometimes stay in a local B&B the night before and collect fresh in the morning — I'll happily book them in with someone I trust.
2026 pricing (what it costs, what's included)
Our 2026 price freeze runs the season out at last year's numbers — low season from £495 a week, mid-season around £795, and peak (school holidays and the Highland shoulder) £1,195 to £1,295. That's fully inclusive: bedding, kitchen kit, gas, awning, chairs and the mileage you'd actually use in a week. No fake-cheap headline followed by a £300 "cleaning fee" on the way back.
Every hire is fully-comp insured. The excess reduction is optional and worth it if you're new to a vehicle this size — Highland roads are narrow and one clipped mirror is enough to eat the excess. It's cheap peace of mind.
Route advice for guests based near Bowness-on-Windermere
Route-wise, my honest advice for guests routing back to Bowness-on-Windermere: don't try to do the full NC500 in five days. It's a wonderful road but it punishes tight itineraries. Take a week, add two days, or shorten it — the Highlands are better savoured than sprinted. North West England's coast has plenty of week-length loops that finish you back near home without the panic.
Hiring from Bowness-on-Windermere works. Hundreds of families and couples have done it since we opened, and the vast majority book again. Get in touch when you're ready — the earlier in the season, the more flexibility you'll have on van choice.
